I see hundreds of new gaming related websites each year. Hardly two of those sites make it out of the first month from its creation.
There could be several reasons for this, not enough advertisement, not enough money to support the website, or just a lack of dedication to its cause. What I can do for all of you who need to make money to either keep your gaming site going or for those of you who just want to make a little money off it, pay attention:
Gaming websites must first be focused at a core group of people. You must pick exactly what game or console you want to focus on. If you are looking to create a gaming experience for more than one console, remember that all of your topics must be just as interesting, there is no half-assing in this process or else you’ll fail, miserably.
Create or pay for a layout which is unique from others. Gaming layouts are getting quite old these days, if you want to attract users, develop something unique, possibly a flash based site.
Content, CONTENT, content, I cannot stress enough, you need phenomenal CONTENT. Gamers who will visit your site will come for good content; they’ll want to know what is going on before anyone else has time to tell them. Those are the gamers that want to go out to their friends and say, guess what, not be the ones who are misinformed and are being told about all the new and cool features by others.
If you’ve got a design and your content down, you must design and maintain an interactive community. Now this, my friends, is where the true monetization process emerges. If you are able to find a message board, preferably Bulletin, you must bring in a core group of members. Active, regular posters who will be interested in staying. Your forum design should be unique and different, attracting a broad range of people. Once your community maintains an active state with its core members, you’ll see that people will start to come from out of no where. Why is this? Your content and your core members just helped you out.
Now if you want to truly monetize off the gaming website, your best bet is to establish a sponsorship with individual gaming websites. You may also want to partner with gaming leagues. If your website is booming because of its content, people will begin to realize that they can use your website to gain interest in theirs. They’ll ask you to be the host of their gaming leagues. For this, you’ll be paid. You could have tournaments which are sponsored, for several different online games. The winning person or clan would be awarded a prize, ultimately only raising the standards bar of your website higher.
You may also want to include advertisements in your forum from individual sponsors. You also may want to have a small gaming store where you can sell consoles, video games, hats with your logo on it, etc. These will all lead to profit. You must remember though, if you want to profit from anything related to a gaming based website, your content must be the substantial structure of your website. With all of this, I can say Good luck, and good night.
